Dr. Sanders on Mandela Fellows Panel July 28,2017 at US Chamber on Impact of Africa's SMEs



Dr. Sanders' participated in a panel on the important roles that Africa small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) can play for the group of the 2017 Mandela Fellows at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on July 28, 2017.  Highlights also included roundtable discussions on the Mandela Fellow's vision for the future on issues ranging from development to education. A book signing of Sanders' work "The Rise of Africa's Small and Medium Size Enterprises was held as part of the day-long event. This group had attended the University of Virginia, and their visit had been organized by the Presidential Precinct.

Ambassador Sanders' Book Video on "The Rise of Africa's Small and Medium Size Enterprises



Since its publishing in April 2017, Dr. Sanders has done numerous book events around the nation on her insightful and comprehensive look at the role and impact Africa's small and medium size businesses and social enterprises are having on the changing landscape of Sub-Saharan Africa. The new video release on the book July 25, 2017, "The Rise of Africa's Small and Medium Size Enterprises: Spurring Development & Growing the Middle Class," is out now (see below), and the next book event will be hosted by the United States Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C. on July 28, 2017.  During this event, Sanders will also be serving on the opening panel on the impact of Africa SMEs on the Chamber's program with this year's Mandela Fellows, a select group of young African entrepreneurial leaders who will be engaged, as part of the U.S. two-year commitment on education and training in the region, with U.S. universities and businesses around the nation. This is the second year Dr. Sanders is participating in an event to support the goals of the Mandela Fellows program.

Dr Sanders's TEDXTalk VCU Video: Endangered Nigerian Cultural Symbol & Motif Called "Uli"

TEDxTalk VCU Presentation Title: Endangered Cultural Patterns, Symbols & Motifs – The Importance of Their Non-Verbal Communication -  In her first of two TEDX Talks - Ambassador Robin Sanders highlights the importance of protecting endangered sign, symbol and motif systems around the world, noting that what she calls these non-verbal "communication expressions," are just as important as to the global community as written languages. She also notes that endangered communication expressions, should be have a similar world effort to preserve and protect them along the lines of what is done for endangered species and wildlife. Her end points in this TEDxTalk is twofold: there is a need to create a world list/index of endangered sign, symbol, and motif systems in order to ensure more effort is made to preserve and protect them as we lose something as a global community when they disappear, so more awareness and advocacy is needed to ensure their legacies, and, cultural communication expression are in and of themselves information systems just like an written language would be. Her TEDXTalk VCU provided a window on this issue through her presentation on one of Nigeria's disappearing symbol and motif systems called "Uli," on which she also wrote a book called "The Legendary Uli Women of Nigeria," as well as shining light on a number of other endangered systems around the world. Ambassador Sanders did extensive research on this issue and Uli, as both issues were the focus of her dissertation in Information System and Communications at Robert Morris University, Pittsburgh.  See below video of her  TEDXTalk at Virginia Commonwealth University.
